Results of Target Audience

Results of Target Audience

Below is the results from the online target audience we did we all posted links on facebook or twitter and asked people to given answers to the questions we asked about music video's to help us with idea's, we took some of the answers given into thought. Comments such as "calm, sad, lonely, natural we believed that the individual would be lonely, so we decided part of our music video would have "no colour and have flash backs to show her life is colourless without him" and te flash backs to show all the fun times they had.
Some of the shoots we would have the individual "singing in the park" (Diana) "holding a guitar" (Gavin) which is conventional for a music videos, since it is an instrument. The park would symbolise nature, which would relate to the lyrics "all your true emotions shining through" true emotions can be seen through nature as it is natural.

Colours which people said they would associate with the song 'Wait' by Amanda Kaletsky would be
"sky blue" (Natasha) as it symbolises a calm, natural type of image. Others said "green, as it shows growth like in a forest" (Gavin) and "grey" (Guy). These colours are potential candidates to be present within our music video.

Digipack Analyse of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes Front coverThe front cover shows Taylor very calm and happy , the bright colours attracts your attension and becuase her eyes are dark, they are more noticable, wich connects to the song which is beautiful eyes. It also has an image of the artist, there name and what the song is called.
Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes CD Back coverThe back cover concentrates more on Taylor's eyes which is what then connects us to the song, they stand out becuase of the white back ground. The colours chosen are bright, bald and she uses the same font for her name and it looks like she has signed it to make it connect to the audience as they would reconise it more.

Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes CD Cd coverThe CD brings all the colours toether making the digipack as one and it creates and statment and stands out more to then the back cover. She has used the same font through out the album cover but chnaged the colours around on each piece to make it flow better and make it stand out more.

Emil Nava

Emil Nava case study

Emil began as a runner for film production companies and worked for Blink productions and now freelances for OB management. After working as a runner graduated to assistant director (A.D.) where he would manage the video shoots. He signed to academy who are the biggest music video production company, then worked for between the eyes and niw works mainly for Pulse.

Emil has now begun to make adverts, which generally have a far higher budget and production values but which allow for less creative freedom.

At his busiest Emil has made 24 music videos in one year, when he began shooting videos for independant labels the budget would be as low as £5,000 to 310,000, his msot expensive video to date has been Jessie J and the budget was £160,000.

Emil's budget was for the band kid britsih and the track our house, the budget was £20,000 and was in Manchester for one day using local people as the cast, it to9ok two - three days to edit and 10 days for pre-production, this demonstrates the very tight timescales involved.

OB Management- work as aganets for music video directors, there aim is to:

Emil Nava's video's

Paloma Faith-30 minute love affair

Paloma Faith-Picking up the pieces

Ed Sheeran- Lego house

Jessie J- Do it like a dude

Emil's Top tips

Use extreme close up on faces whereever possible, do not shoot whole
of video in medium shot/long shot, an example is Sinead O'Connor-Nothing compares to U.

Jamie Thraves

Jamie Thraves case study

Jamie Thraves is a director who went to university and made short films there, he used award winning short film as 'calling card' to get a 'foot in the door' with the video production company factory films, he started by shooting three very low budget music videos, and these coast about £5,000 each.

The process:

A commissioner from a record label sends a track to 5-10 directors, the directors then each submit a treatment, this stage is unpaid, then the director who has submitted the best treatment is then commissioned to make the video, only then is the director paid.

As can be seen for many directors in the business it is a precarious existence where their livelihood is dependent on each commission.

Jamie Thraves submitted treatments for his two best known videos and each was accepted.

1. Radiohead-Just £100,000 budget and was shot in three days

2. cold play the scientist £200,000 budget and was also shot in three days.

One of Jamie Thraves most recent video's is Japanese popstars-song for Lisa, the video cost about £20,000 and was shot in 2 days.

Jamie has used the music video's to get into the film business, so far he has shot three features:

1. The low down
2. The cry of the owl
3. Treacle Jr

Jamie's top tips

Use the lyrics but try not to be too literal, most importantly go with the emotion of the lyrics.
