Results of Target Audience

Results of Target Audience

Below is the results from the online target audience we did we all posted links on facebook or twitter and asked people to given answers to the questions we asked about music video's to help us with idea's, we took some of the answers given into thought. Comments such as "calm, sad, lonely, natural we believed that the individual would be lonely, so we decided part of our music video would have "no colour and have flash backs to show her life is colourless without him" and te flash backs to show all the fun times they had.
Some of the shoots we would have the individual "singing in the park" (Diana) "holding a guitar" (Gavin) which is conventional for a music videos, since it is an instrument. The park would symbolise nature, which would relate to the lyrics "all your true emotions shining through" true emotions can be seen through nature as it is natural.

Colours which people said they would associate with the song 'Wait' by Amanda Kaletsky would be
"sky blue" (Natasha) as it symbolises a calm, natural type of image. Others said "green, as it shows growth like in a forest" (Gavin) and "grey" (Guy). These colours are potential candidates to be present within our music video.

Digipack Analyse of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes Front coverThe front cover shows Taylor very calm and happy , the bright colours attracts your attension and becuase her eyes are dark, they are more noticable, wich connects to the song which is beautiful eyes. It also has an image of the artist, there name and what the song is called.
Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes CD Back coverThe back cover concentrates more on Taylor's eyes which is what then connects us to the song, they stand out becuase of the white back ground. The colours chosen are bright, bald and she uses the same font for her name and it looks like she has signed it to make it connect to the audience as they would reconise it more.

Taylor Swift - Beautiful Eyes CD Cd coverThe CD brings all the colours toether making the digipack as one and it creates and statment and stands out more to then the back cover. She has used the same font through out the album cover but chnaged the colours around on each piece to make it flow better and make it stand out more.

Emil Nava

Emil Nava case study

Emil began as a runner for film production companies and worked for Blink productions and now freelances for OB management. After working as a runner graduated to assistant director (A.D.) where he would manage the video shoots. He signed to academy who are the biggest music video production company, then worked for between the eyes and niw works mainly for Pulse.

Emil has now begun to make adverts, which generally have a far higher budget and production values but which allow for less creative freedom.

At his busiest Emil has made 24 music videos in one year, when he began shooting videos for independant labels the budget would be as low as £5,000 to 310,000, his msot expensive video to date has been Jessie J and the budget was £160,000.

Emil's budget was for the band kid britsih and the track our house, the budget was £20,000 and was in Manchester for one day using local people as the cast, it to9ok two - three days to edit and 10 days for pre-production, this demonstrates the very tight timescales involved.

OB Management

OB Management- work as aganets for music video directors, there aim is to:

Nurture talent
Work with production companies
Work with record labels
Match the right director to the right artists

Some of the production companies are:

Pulse films
Rocket
Agile films
Friends
Wonda

Emil Nava's video's

Paloma Faith-30 minute love affair

Paloma Faith-Picking up the pieces

Ed Sheeran- Lego house

Jessie J- Do it like a dude

Emil's Top tips

Use extreme close up on faces whereever possible, do not shoot whole
of video in medium shot/long shot, an example is Sinead O'Connor-Nothing compares to U.

Jamie Thraves

Jamie Thraves case study

Jamie Thraves is a director who went to university and made short films there, he used award winning short film as 'calling card' to get a 'foot in the door' with the video production company factory films, he started by shooting three very low budget music videos, and these coast about £5,000 each.

The process:

A commissioner from a record label sends a track to 5-10 directors, the directors then each submit a treatment, this stage is unpaid, then the director who has submitted the best treatment is then commissioned to make the video, only then is the director paid.

As can be seen for many directors in the business it is a precarious existence where their livelihood is dependent on each commission.

Jamie Thraves submitted treatments for his two best known videos and each was accepted.

1. Radiohead-Just £100,000 budget and was shot in three days

2. cold play the scientist £200,000 budget and was also shot in three days.

One of Jamie Thraves most recent video's is Japanese popstars-song for Lisa, the video cost about £20,000 and was shot in 2 days.

Jamie has used the music video's to get into the film business, so far he has shot three features:

1. The low down
2. The cry of the owl
3. Treacle Jr

Jamie's top tips

Use the lyrics but try not to be too literal, most importantly go with the emotion of the lyrics.

Music video success criteria

How might we measure the success criteria of a music promo video?

Word of month
Number of hits on youtube
How many times shown on television
Amounts of publicity
Downloads (legal/illegal)
Charts
CD'S sales

It is worth nothing how there has been a massive switch in the importance of youtube from television channels such as MTV.
Most viewing of music video's now appears to be online.

An example of a music video which has been successful by the use of internet and youtube is gangnam style, this is because it was online and everyone heard about it and we continue to watch it as it funny and entertaining.

Brainstrom

The image above shows the brainstorm that we did for are music video.

Preliminary Task "Don't go breaking my heart"

"Don't go breaking my heart"

When doing the preliminary task I learned how to lip sing in a music video and the production of a music video, I learned that you have to film several takes and sing out loud to make sure you're doing the correct mouth movements and you get into the rhythm of the song so you don't have to have the paper in front of you. Also we learned that when you're doing the takes for the video not to leave caps, as this loses momentum and you forget words so we continued filming and re-doing the video until we was happy so I knew the words of my heart and didn't lose momentum.

After filming the music video-post production this is what we did after filming. We firstly uploaded are video on to apple imac. To edit our video we used Final cut express. We used layers to layer the film so we could cut vertically and I used the taggle clip overlayers which is where you take a piece of the video and lift it up on the timeline then it will play that part then go back to main timeline. This is how we managed to cut from one singer to other and both together  I used the pen tool to highlight the part what we needed to edit and then locked it in so it could be changed. We used the markers to mark on the track/clip and lift it up on the timeline using taggle tool and we matched them up to the lip singing was in time with the actual music video. Lastly I learned how to remove the audio, using the link selection tool to the song fades out.

After analysing the music video I think we edited it really well and the lip singing was excellent however sir did seem to be putting more energy and enthusiasm into the video them me. So for are actual video we will get someone who is confident singing in front of people and someone who isn't confused singer and performing in front of people. We will also continue to use the different angles of camera as this worked well and do the filming several times with no caps as this worked well and i didn't need the paper.

All that I have learned doing this preliminary task i will take on board when i do my actual music video and i will remember all the things that worked well ion the video and what problems we had so we don't repeat them but overall i think I learned a lot from doing this preliminary task and it did give me more confidence.

Information on copyright

Copyright is when someone produces a song/product ect and then saying its copyrighted, which means that no one else can copy their idea as they had it first.
Another definition of what copyright means:
"A copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state to the creator of an original work or their assignee for a limited period of time upon disclosure of the work. This includes the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. In most jurisdictions copyright arises upon fixation and does not need to be registered.

The purpose of a music video

The purpose of a music video is to advertise and promote the song they are singing. The video is created to appeal to a wider audience and a variety of fans. The more you promote your music video the more fans you will have and this will help to widen your fan base and you will have more of a chance of being a successful singer/artist in future.

Advertisement- You need to advertise the music video as it draws attention to the music/song and it illustrates the song, and by advetissinf you ate appealing to a visual audience and it expresses on individual emotions as the song tells a story and markets an image to the audience.

it also promotes the artist and the single or album the artist has created, by watching the video it will persuade the audience to by the cd/download the song and this will raise the audience awareness or profile of the artist/group.

Here is a brief profile about are artist:

Music video lyrics/what song is about

The song is about that delicate time at the beginning of a
relationship, when you're unsure if you want to move forward, and is
about asking the other person to wait for you to figure it out. The
beginning is always scary, having to take down walls you've built up
over years to let the other person in, and you hope they'll give you
the time you need.

If I had to climb
The highest mountain
Alone, across the sea
Would you way for me
With no word, no answer
Tell me would you wait for me

Cuz I have broken down my barriers
Taken down my walls
Let down my fortress for you

You can't find yourself in somebody else
But they can help you see
All your true emotions shining through
To the heart of me

Cuz I have to go now, for a time
And I don't know how or when
But if you tell me to, I'll come back for you
Just tell me you will wait for me

Cuz I have broken down my barriers
Taken down my walls
Let down my fortress for you

You can't find yourself in somebody else
But they can help you see
All your true emotions shining through
To the heart of me

Cuz I have broken down my barriers
Taken down my walls
Let down my fortress for you

You can't find yourself in somebody else
But they can help you see
All your true emotions shining through
To the heart of me

And you can break my heart in a million ways
But please not tonight
You can be who you want to be
But be it with me
Be you with me

Music Video

Below is the email I sent to Amanda Kaletsky asking her if we could use her music for our music video. Below is the conformation and the email Miss Thompson sent to her telling her what we was going to be making a video and we are waiting now for the lyrics to her song.

Editing to the beat

Today we had to create a video and edit it to the beat. I found this very difficult and i did get close to the beat and I think I was on the beat once or twice. I Learned that it takes a lot of time and effort to edit to the beat and this has influenced our choice of song for our music video.

Above is a screen grab of how I edited it.

Today we carried on watching the 100 greatest music video's number 87 by Talking heads with "one in a life time" which was released in 1981. This has abstract movement in the video. Our artist

I have a friend who is a singer and we asked her  if she would like to be the singer in are music video and she said yes. Over the summer we have been looking at music from different sits eg. unsigned.com   We will have to email artist and get permission to use the music then we will contact them and get the stuff we need for the vedio.

Finding the right music

For our project we will find music non-copy right music from websites such as www.unsigned.com or www.youtube.com. We will look on these websites for idea's and non-copy right music which we would email the artist manger and write an email asking if we would be able to use there music for are video. We would need to tell them what school we are from, what year we are in ,names, what are idea is for the video.

NON-copy right music

Copy right is a legal concept which gives the person who made the music or work the exclusive rigths. Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other related rights.
This is important becuase it means that people can just take other peoples work and take credit for it they haev to have permission from the original persons whose work it was.
The problems that we might have with this in the project we do is that it might take alot of time to contact artist about there music to find out if we can use it or not.

some of the information used was from www.wikipedia.com

My favourite music video

My favourite music video is Cascade "summer of love", this is my favourite video becuase its about summer and going on holiday with friends and meet new people and having a good time and partying all night and having a good time and when summer comes around I love this video becuase its energetic and gets me in the mood for summer.
